November 4, 2008
The National
Minority AIDS Council (NMAC) is a non-partisan organization, and cannot support a
candidate for president or any other office.
However, NMAC thanks everyone who exercised their right to vote in the recent election.
We hope you will read a letter from our new president-elect, Barack Obama, expressing support for those working on the frontlines of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which was sent to the 2008 United States Conference on AIDS, held this past September 18-21, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We also invite you to read the 2008
Partnership Paper, Fighting HIV/AIDS in Communities of Color: An Action Plan for
the Next President. This document is the result of an historic partnership between 30 national
HIV/AIDS organizations and leaders representing communities of color across the
United States, its territories and Native American tribes.
It outlines
the proposed priorities that should be taken into consideration by the next president in addressing HIV/AIDS in their
administration - most notably in the development of a national HIV/AIDS
strategic plan.
