Last year, the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC) honored its 20th anniversary of developing leadership within communities of color to address the challenges of HIV/AIDS. While I am proud of our accomplishments, I am disheartened that communities of color continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Thanks to your loyal support, NMAC has developed and implemented programs and services – including conferences, trainings, publications and online resources – that have helped thousands of AIDS service organizations; local health providers; and faith- and community-based organizations serving communities of color nationwide deliver HIV/AIDS services more efficiently and effectively.
Over the years, NMAC has garnished the support of celebrities from all walks of life, such as Rosie Perez, Shakira, Magic Johnson, Salt n Pepa, and President Bill Clinton, each of whom has realized the impact of HIV/AIDS in the United States and resolved to use their status to raise awareness. NMAC is proud to have the continued support of two talented and influential women who have joined forces with NMAC to spread the word about HIV/AIDS: NMAC’s newest board member, jazz legend, Nancy Wilson, and NMAC’s celebrity spokesperson, actress and activist, Sheryl Lee Ralph.
I realize that there are many causes out there that each of these women could direct their energy and celebrity towards. We are particularly honored to have each of these women chooses to use her considerable presence to heighten the public’s awareness of the devastating impact HIV/AIDS has had, and continues to have globally. Please take a moment to read about their dedication to NMAC and the fight to end this epidemic. We hope that you join them in helping NMAC continue its work building healthier communities of color. The impact of your donation will be real. Your gift will save lives.
