Moises Cintron (22), born and raised in San Juan Puerto Rico, is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Health with Concentration in Epidemiology at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. He works as a Research Assistant in the Center for Evaluation and Sociomedical Research, specifically in the Sex+ T.E.A.M., where he collaborates with Dr. Carlos Rodríguez (Principal Investigator) on a CDC study focused on HIV-related stigma among MSM. He was one of NMAC’s 2013 Youth Scholars and was also part of the PrEP Education Community Advisory Committee, where he collaborated in the development of the PrEP Awareness Program. As a member of the American Medical Student Association he had the opportunity to coordinate HIV conferences and workshops, and also manage the Sexuality and Gender Committee of this association. He also had previous research experiences at the University of Puerto Rico Clinical Trial Unit, within the Maternal Infant Studies Center (CEMI in Spanish) under the supervision of Dr. Carmen Zorrilla (Principal Investigator) where he also assisted the center’s Community Education Team. This clinic provides social work and gynecologic-obstetrics services to women who live with HIV/AIDS, serves as a testing and counseling center for the general public and is also dedicated to scientific research. Moises is determined to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Puerto Rico, about PrEP and also to represent the Puerto Rican, Latin and LGBT community in the United States.
