Edric Figueroa is a queer peruano-americano with organizing and harm-reduction roots planted in Atlanta, GA who is currently living in Seattle, WA. As the Bilingual Community Care Advocate for the Northwest Network of Bisexual, Trans, Lesbian & Gay Survivors of Abuse, Edric’s work is centered on building the self-determination of individuals and creating a beloved community that embraces all the intersections of identity and the social determinants that create the conditions for violence. Edric has served as the 2014 Seattle Youth Ambassador for National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day and is a currently a Greater Than AIDS Ambassador for the Speak Out campaign.
At USCA, I hope to engage with scholars and other HIV professionals in conversations that flip the narratives of “at-risk youth” into strategies for young people to address the root-causes( i.e.: poverty, institutionalized racism and homophobia, etc.) that create such risk factors.
