Tiana McKan is currently a junior at Norfolk State University. She takes pride in her education. Through her journey at Norfolk State University she has traveled to several places such as Ecuador, Curacao, and South Africa for educational and community services related purposes. She is highly involved in her school and community taking leadership roles such as PSI CHI president and New Student Engagement Director for Golden Key. She has helped quite a few programs come to life during her time in Norfolk State University such as the Learning Community in the Psychology department and Project CHOICE which is an HIV and substance abuse prevention group. Project CHOICE has helped open her eyes to the seriousness of HIV in the community and helped drive her passion to help minimize its alarming rates from a local and global stand point. She has worked with HIV prevention in Guayaquil, Ecuador by throwing a festival raising awareness in their community. She has also worked with the peer educators in Johannesburg, South Africa in continuing to lower their rates of HIV affections. Lastly, she works in the community of Hampton Roads and with the students of Norfolk State University by doing interventions which educate her peers, creating effective programs, and advocating/facilitating HIV testing. Although, she is only twenty one she has a big heart and knows she has a lot to accomplish before her time is up. For this is only just the beginning for her.
